Girls in Tech, Inc. (“Girls in Tech,” “we” or “us”) values your privacy. In this Privacy Policy (“Policy”), we describe how we collect, use, and disclose information that we obtain about visitors to our website (the “Site”), users of the services available through our Site (collectively, the “Services”), as well as offline through events and other venues, and from Girls in Tech local chapters (each a “Chapter”). This Policy does not apply to our Chapters treatment of the personal information that they collect.

By visiting the Site, or using any of our Services, or providing your information to us, you agree that your personal information will be handled as described in this Policy. Your use of our Site or Services, and any dispute over privacy, is subject to this Policy and our Website Terms of Use, including its applicable limitations on damages and the resolution of disputes. The Girls in Tech Website Terms of Use are incorporated by reference into this Policy.

What Information Do We Collect About You and Why?

We may collect information about you directly from you, from our Chapters and other entities, as well as automatically through your use of our Site or Services.

Information We Collect Directly From You. The type of information that we collect from you depends on your interaction with our Site and Services. We may require or ask that you register with us or provide personal information to us, in order to access certain Services, such as to sign up to receive communications from us, access certain content on our website, comment on our blogs, or register for our programs. In these areas, we may ask you for your name and email address, as well as other optional information such as demographic information. From time to time, we administer questionnaires, surveys and other research tools and may ask that you provide certain information as part of your participation; you are not required to participate in these surveys. We also offer a Recruitment Platform through our Site, which is discussed below.

Girls in Tech Recruitment Platform. For persons seeking employment in the United States, we offer our Recruitment Platform designed to connect job seekers with prospective employers. If you would like to participate in the Platform, you will need to create a separate account for the Platform by providing the following information: name, email address and password. You also may log in using your social network credentials for social medial platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn (“Social Networking Sites”) (see below). To participate, you also will need to create a profile as follows:

  • Job Seeker Profile. We collect the following information from job seekers for their profiles: name, location, skills, photo, desired position, authorization to work, personal introduction, links to their Social Media Sites, work experience, education, certifications, memberships and awards. Some of this information is optional, but the job seeker’s name and email address is required. Job seekers may upload a CV. Prospective employers may require you to take a skills test; you may choose not to do so but the employer may not consider your application complete. Your test results are calculated by a non-affiliated service provider and will be shared at your direction. At your option, you may include your test results for certain skills (e.g., competency in a particular area) and display your test results as part of your profile. Based upon job seekers’ experience and skills, job recommendations may be displayed to job seekers. We may also collect information related to a job seeker’s use of the Recruitment Platform such as tests taken and job applications submitted.
  • Company Profile. Employers may create a company profile with information such as company name and location. Job seekers may view company profiles, as well as its job openings, when applying for jobs at the company. We may collect information related to an employer’s use of the Recruitment Platform such as jobs posted, feedback, subscription package and payment history (for subscription packages).

Social Networking Sites. You may also create an account for our Girls in Tech Recruitment Platform using your social network credentials from Social Networking Sites. If you do so, we obtain certain information from these third-party sites with the permission you grant to us. For example, we may import Facebook profile pictures, or access your friends list if you grant us permission during the log on process. We collect information about how individuals like and share content about us on social media platforms. We may store the information that we receive from Facebook and/or Google with other information that we collect from you or receive about you. The social networking site controls the information it collects from you. For information about how they may use and disclose your information, including any information you make public, please consult their respective privacy policies.

Information We Collect Automatically. We automatically collect the following information about your use of our Site or Services through cookies, web beacons, java script, log files and other technologies: your domain name; your browser type and operating system; web pages you view; links you click; your IP address; the length of time you visit our Site and or use our Services; and the referring URL, or the webpage that led you to our Site. We may combine this information with other information that we have collected about you, including, where applicable, your user name, name, and other personal information. Please see the section “Our Use of Cookies and Other Tracking Mechanisms” below for more information.

How We Use Your Information

We use your information, including your personal information, for the following purposes:

  • To provide our Services to you, including the Girls in Tech Recruitment Platform, to communicate with you about your use of our Services, to respond to your inquiries and requests, and for other customer service purposes.
  • To tailor the content and information that we may send or display to you, to offer location customization, and personalized help and instructions, and to otherwise personalize your experiences while using the Site or our Services.
  • For informational and promotional purposes. For example, we may use your information, such as your email address, to send you news and newsletters or to otherwise contact you about products or information we think may interest you.
  • To better understand how users access and use our Site and Services, both on an aggregated and individualized basis, in order to improve our Site and Services, respond to user desires and preferences, and for other research and analytical purposes.

How We Share Your Information

We may share your information, including personal information, as follows:

  • Site Visitors. Any information you post to our Site, including, without blog comments, will be viewable on our Site.
  • Girls in Tech Chapters. We may share your information with your local Girls in Tech chapter.
  • Girls in Tech Recruitment Platform. The personal information provided by job seekers on their Girls in Tech Recruitment Platform profiles may be shared with potential employers. Depending on the subscription package purchased, employers may be able to search for job seekers and receive recommendations of applicants for job openings.
  • Service Providers. We may disclose the information we collect from you to service providers who perform functions on our behalf. The service providers include, for example, the administrator of skills tests and as explained, job seekers choose whether or not to share their test results.
  • Business Transfers. If we are acquired by or merged with another company/non-profit, if some or all of our assets are transferred to another entity, or as part of a bankruptcy proceeding, we may transfer the information we have collected from you to the other company.
  • In Response to Legal Process. We also may disclose the information we collect from you in order to comply with the law, a judicial proceeding, court order, or other legal process, such as in response to a court order or a subpoena.
  • To Protect Us and Others. We also may disclose the information we collect from you where we believe it is necessary to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the safety of any person, violations of our Terms of Use or this Policy, or as evidence in litigation in which Company is involved.
  • Aggregate and De-Identified Information. We may share aggregate or de-identified information with third parties.

Our Use of Cookies and Other Tracking Mechanisms

We and our service providers use cookies, clear GIFs, and other tracking mechanisms to track information about your use of our Site or Services. We may combine this information with other personal information we collect from you (and our service providers may do so on our behalf).

Cookies. Cookies are alphanumeric identifiers that we transfer to your computer through your web browser for record-keeping purposes. Some cookies allow us to make it easier for you to navigate our Site and Services, while others are used to enable a faster log-in process or to allow us to track your activities at our Site. Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but if you prefer, you can edit your browser options to block them in the future. The Help portion of the toolbar on most browsers will tell you how to prevent your computer from accepting new cookies, how to have the browser notify you when you receive a new cookie, or how to disable cookies altogether.

Clear GIFs. Clear GIFs (a.k.a. web beacons, web bugs or pixel tags) are tiny graphics with a unique identifier, similar in function to cookies. In contrast to cookies, though, clear GIFs are embedded invisibly on web pages, not stored on your hard drive. We might use clear GIFs to track the activities of Site visitors and App users, help us manage content, and compile statistics about usage. We and our service providers also might use clear GIFs in HTML e-mails to our customers, to help us track e-mail response rates, identify when our e-mails are viewed, and track whether our e-mails are forwarded.

Third-Party Analytics. We also use automated devices and applications, such as Google Analytics, to evaluate usage of our Sites and the services we provide. We use these tools to gather non-personal information about users to help us improve our services, performance and user experiences. These analytics providers may use cookies and other technologies to perform their services, and may combine the information that they collect about you on our Sites with other information that they have collected. This Policy does not cover such third parties’ use of the data.

Do-Not-Track. Currently, our systems do not recognize browser “do-not-track” requests. You may, however, disable certain tracking as discussed in this section (e.g., by disabling cookies).


Our Site and Services may contain links to non-affiliated websites. Any access to and use of such linked websites is not governed by this Policy, but instead is governed by the privacy policies of those websites. We are not responsible for the information practices of such websites.

Communications From Us

We may send periodic promotional or informational emails to you. You may opt-out of such communications by following the opt-out instructions contained in the e-mail. Please note that it may take up to 10 business days for us to process opt-out requests. If you opt-out of receiving emails about recommendations or other information we think may interest you, we may still send you e-mails about your account or any Services you have requested or received from us.

Security of My Personal Information

We have implemented security measures to protect the information we collect from loss, misuse, and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. Please be aware that despite our best efforts, no data security measures can guarantee 100% security.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR INTERNATIONAL USERS: International Transfers of Personal Data

Your information will be transferred to and maintained on computers located in the United States (or any other country where we, our affiliates, subsidiaries, agents and our service providers operate) and processed there. The United States and the other jurisdictions to which we transfer information may not have equivalent data protection laws as your home jurisdiction. By providing any information to us, or permitting us to collect information via the Services, you acknowledge and expressly consent to the transfer of such information to, and processing and storage of such information in the United States and any other jurisdiction in which we or our affiliates, subsidiaries, service providers or agents operate.

GDPR and Girls in Tech’s EU Privacy Notice (“EU Privacy Notice”): Our EU Privacy Notice available here contains additional information about how we process personal data that is subject to the EU General Data Protection Regulation and associated European Union/European Economic Area (“EEA”) national laws (together, the “GDPR”). Girls in Tech’s EU Privacy Notice applies to our processing of personal data from EU users of the Sites, as well as other personal data that is governed by the GDPR.

Children Under 13

Our Services are not designed for children under 13. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will delete such information from our systems.
